GRAEME WILSON
An adopted Fifer for over 50 years, with origins in Ayrshire (Alloway), where Graeme enjoyed many musical activities and developments on offer. Six years at RSAMD in Glasgow (two as a junior student and four as a senior) were followed by one at Liverpool University and finally teacher training. Twenty years Principal Teacher of Music at Queen Anne High School, Dunfermline, were followed by fifteen as Adviser in Music and Music Services Manager for Fife Council Education Service, and Chair of the Fife Youth Music Forum. Conductor of Fife Youth Orchestra for 20 years.
Working life included a long spell with SQA as a music panel member, paper setter and marker and Visiting Assessor, as well as many other projects across Scotland.
After retirement, he worked with the Glasgow based Tapestry Partnership on several large-scale educational projects involving the likes of Professor Nigel Osborne and many other prominent world-renowned educationalists.
Graeme has been a performing musician throughout his life – as a violinist, pianist, organist, event manager and conductor (Fife Sinfonia, St Andrews University G&S Society, Avison String Ensemble, AvisonPlus, Fife Youth Orchestra and MD at Fife Opera for ten seasons). Other work included Fife Action on Autism and New Scottish Arts. He continues to work in music education – founder member and Secretary of the Scottish Association for Music Education and as an adjudicator, while remaining MD and Conductor of Kirkcaldy Orchestral Society, in 2016 celebrating 40 years in that post, accompanist for the Langtoun Singers and Bennochy Community Choir, Chair of Fife Festival of Music and a member of Edinburgh Symphony Orchestra and Kingdom Brass.
